Smashbox Primer & Foundation Review

Hello lovely people!

You may have seen on our Insta (you can check us out @thecakefaces) that I bought the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water and Studio Skin 15 Hour Foundation. Well I’ve been busy testing them out ready to share my thoughts with you.

Firstly lets start with the primer (which came in really lovely packaging but I was too carried away with getting into the products that I didn’t actually take a photo…oops!!). This primer your mist all over your face before applying your foundation to keep your make-up on for longer and create a smoother flawless base. It sprays really finely and evenly out of the nozzle which is a massive plus as I hate it when a product spurts out of a spray nozzle!! It smells really lovely, not heavily fragranced but a light refreshing one – great for early morning starts.

I really like this primer, I find its super light and hydrating. I do suffer with dry skin, especially in winter and this product I do find helps keep my moisturiser locked into my skin. I’m still undecided as to whether it keeps my make-up on for longer but I do think it helps it go on smoother and helps everything blend together. It is pretty pricey for what looks like a bottle of water which you spritz on your face though!!!

Now lets move onto the Studio Skin 15 Hour Foundation. I was very impressed that I had a shade that matched amazingly – I normally find it a little difficult to find one that isn’t too yellow or white so that was a great start for me. This foundation promises ’15 Hour Hydrating Wear’ and it is a really smooth creamy product.

I really like this foundation and I kind of didn’t want to, its the most expensive foundation I’ve ever bought and I didn’t want to like it so I wouldn’t want to buy it again (crazy logic I know haha!).  I just think the formula of this is beautiful, it so easily blend-able, a great colour match and build able coverage. I also find that other products sit well, like my contour, blush and highlight. It does last really well, but on a stressful or slightly warm day it does go a little shiny but far less that other foundations I’ve used – I also don’t bake or set my face when I use this foundation day to day so this speaks volumes for how well it lasts. I will definitely be buying again (hopefully when its on offer!!).

The photos below are recent selfies where I’ve used the primer and foundation. The middle one is after about 12 hours from application of foundation.

Hope you’ve enjoyed this review, let me know in the comments below if you’ve tried these products and what you think!
